Insurance Law

Knox Ricksen LLP represents many of the leading insurance companies in the United States on a wide range of matters. The Insurance Litigation Team has extensive experience in insurance coverage matters, first party claims, and bad faith. We also have a winning track record resolving complex matters relating to personal injury, premises liability, and automobile liability issues, as well as representing insurance and self-insured clients in areas such as products liability, general liability, professional liability and insurance coverage.

We represent insurance companies in fraud, unfair business practices and “whistle-blower” actions against doctors, chiropractors, lawyers, automotive repair operators and other individuals and entities engaging in unfair or fraudulent claims practices. Our team leaders assist and collaborate with insurance company personnel regarding the continuous evolvement of fraud-related issues and Special Investigation Unit (SIU) regulations. Representative of our collaboration and deep commitment to clients is the award by two different San Mateo County Superior Court judges of six figure judgments in two California State Automobile Association Inter-Insurance Bureau fraud cases handled by Thomas Fraysse of Knox Ricksen.

In addition to handling hundreds of jury trials, our team has also arbitrated countless first-party uninsured and underinsured motorist cases and disputed medical payment claims.

Our team members are active participants in those organizations which help advance the interests and further the education of ourselves and our clients including the Defense Research Institute, Northern California Fraud Investigation Association, Association of Defense Counsel and WASATI. Knox Ricksen was proud to be a sponsor of the NCFIA’s annual training conference which was held earlier this year, at the Hyatt Regency Monterey in beautiful Monterey, California. Additionally, Tom Fraysse, past president of the Northern California Fraud Investigator’s Association, has completed a round of speeches on “Essentials of Best Practices — A Collaborative and Tactical Strategy for Combating Fraud — The Role of SIU Counsel”. This series of presentations was done in conjunction with Craig Pusser and James Durkee of California State Automobile Association Inter-Insurance Bureau; John Standish, Bureau Chief, and Moses Gomez, Division Chief of the California Department of Insurance; and Eric von Geldern and George Wood of the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.
