Landlord / Tenant Team Speaks To Northern Alameda County Rental Association
Knox Ricksen’s Landlord/Tenant litigation team spoke to The Northern Alameda County Rental Association, an organization of Alameda County landlords and rental property professionals, in March of 2007 about California's habitability laws and how to avoid a costly habitability lawsuit. Our team has extensive experience defending landlords in complex cases including California's habitability laws with an emphasis on defending suits in Alameda County.
The Landlord/Tenant team spoke about California's requirements regarding residential rental units, as well as the best practices to protect against a potential suit. The law requires that all residential rental properties must have properly working doors, windows, gas, plumbing facilities, electrical systems, heaters, sufficient hot and cold water, properly maintained grounds, lack of rodents and bug infestations, sufficient trash facilities and properly repaired floors and roofs. Our team provided valuable information by discussing the best practices to avoid a habitability suit, including proper maintenance, repair policies, and complaint systems to provide the best tools to defense lawyers if such a case is filed against a landlord.
