Knox Ricksen LLP, a civil litigation firm dedicated to fighting healthcare and insurance fraud, has welcomed Laura Smith as an associate in its Texas practice.
“Laura brings a broad litigation background that includes complex litigation, insurance coverage matters, personal injury litigation, and representing government agencies,” stated managing partner Maisie Sokolove. “As we continue expanding our Texas footprint, her experience and judgment will be valuable additions to our team.”
Before joining Knox Ricksen, Smith represented insurers, corporations, and government entities in a broad range of complex litigation matters. Her experience includes personal injury litigation, premises liability litigation, and insurance coverage matters. She has evaluated claims exposure, negotiated settlements, advised corporate risk management teams, and served as coverage counsel to insurance carriers. Smith also represented Texas state agencies in trial and appellate litigation while serving with the Texas Office of the Attorney General.
Smith was selected for inclusion on the 2026 Texas Rising Stars list. She is a member of the Travis County Women Lawyers Association, serving as CLE Co-Chair from 2024-2025 and Publicity Co-Chair from 2025-2027. Smith is also a member of the Austin Bar Association, the Austin Black Lawyers Association and the Austin Young Lawyers Association.
Smith earned her J.D. from Texas A&M University School of Law in 2021 and her B.A. from The University of Texas at Austin in 2017.
